Intro to Acts

Who wrote the book of Acts?
Luke…well, God did thru Luke
Who are the main people in the book?
Jesus, Peter, Saul/Paul, Barnabas, Stephen, Silas, Timothy, Cornelius
Why were Luke and Acts written?
Read Acts 1:1–3 “I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After he had suffered, he also presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.”
How does the book of Luke end? Read Luke 24:50-53. What’s happening here?
The resurrected Jesus has appeared to his disciples and now Jesus ascends into heaven
What was the people’s response?
What do you remember about this book
Ascension of Jesus, Holy Spirit coming at Pentecost, healing of many people, martyrdom of Stephen, conversion of Paul, Peter and Cornelius, Paul’s missionary journey’s – 3 total, Paul’s journey to Rome
Given that one of the themes of Acts has to do with the Holy Spirit working in people’s hearts to hear the Gospel and believe, do you remember the moment in your life when you became a Christian? If not, share about a time when God showed up in your life and was very real to you?
maybe on a mission trip, or through a difficult circumstance?
If you feel comfortable as a leader to share your own brief testimony of coming to faith, or when God showed up in your life and began to change your heart, this would be a great time to share that.
Another theme in Acts is unity and fellowship in the early church. What things can you do this year to strengthen and grow in your fellowship with other Yoggers?
